Happy Birthday to Me

bdaycake.gif

Today is my birthday ~ and Captain Hubby’s as well!  This is the 20th birthday that we have celebrated jointly ~ whew!  Every year we try to recall what we did on each and every birthday in the past and there are always a handful missing…

This year I am taking the day off to get my hair done, hit the library (keeping up with my non-resolution, thank you very much!), meet my mother for some lunch & shopping, then Captain Hubby & I are going to try a new-ish place for dinner.  And try to recall what we did on January the 27th for the last 19 years…

But I can’t have all the fun ~ I thought I’d celebrate by giving away something special.  Remember this scrapbook collection of mine?

I’m giving away a whole set of the Tapestry by C.R. Gibson GeoBreeze scrapbook products!  Just leave a comment below sharing the most vivid childhood birthday memory you can recall.  I’ll share mine when I post the winner on February 5th!

Absolutely have a great birthday. Wow, you two set it up to never forget each others birtdays, huh?

I’m enjoying digging into your blog. So well done!

Oh, geez, I wish I had a good childhood memory to share. I was passed around between family and various foster homes. I didn’t know until I got ahold of my birth certificate as an adult the exact date I was born. Bummer, I know. I try to make it up by loving my children and grandchildren and want them to know the day they were born was a glorious day!

WOW! What an awesome idea, especially since you have the same birthday. And congrats on celebrating 19 together!

I have a couple of great childhood memories, but to choose just one! I guess it would be with my grandfather. I loved going to their house, because they had this great basement to play in. During the summer, when we could stay up late, my grandfather always watched The Tonight Show. So, the ritual was to go to the kitchen and make up a snack tray with cheese, crackers, pickles, cherry tomatoes and other fun snack stuff, then we would sit together on the couch and watch The Tonight Show. It was Johnny Carson then. I don’t remember much about the show except the beginning and sharing the snacks with my grandfather. Maybe I don’t remember the show, because I fell asleep! It is a fond memory for me!

    Happy Birthday BJ!!!!

I wish you a most wonderful day filled with fun and inspiration….You have been one of the sweetest blog friends ever!!! My favorite childhood memories are the ones of my Mom placing a little vase of lily of the valley by my bedside….

We had a huge property and she planted a bunch of lily of the valley in this rock gargen we created in the shape of a heart….in the Spring when the Lily of the Valley would bloom she would pick these full mini bouquets and always place one on my nightstand…when I went to bed every so often I would smell these magical flowers…and to this day they are my favorite…..when I grew up and built our new home…my Mom gave me a bunch of these plants from that very garden….and I still pick them and place them by my bedside….the scent makes me remember the good old days when I was young ….my Mom and I are as close as any two people can be….I love her for everything she does in our lives….

thanks for this post…I love when you bring out some great memories from our past….
    Hugs
    Diana

    Happy Birthday Beej-

how cute that you and your Captain-hubby have the same special day…Hope you are having so much fun shopping with your Mom and lunch and dinner. Milk it for all it’s worth babe! best to Jamie too!

One of my funniest birthday memories is the one when I had a fantastic doll birthday cake for my party, you know, one of those with the actual doll in the middle of the cake and the cake is her skirt, all layered with delicate roses and lots of sweet frosting. My darling younger brother grabbed the head of the doll and then smooshed her down as far as she could go into the cake, basically covering her with roses and frosting up to her eyeballs. I cried, my friends screamed, my brother laughed and my parents, well, I think they didn’t really know what to do. My Mom grabbed the doll and pulled her back up and wiped off the frosting from her hair and face. I still remember it so vividly…I could have killed him. Funny thing is, we are very close and always have been good friends. Just one of those younger brother moments I guess….but, not to worry, I got him back~

    have a wonderful day!

Happy Birthday to both of you!! I’m sure this will be just one in a string of wonderful memories to come! (And there must be something in there about soul-mates sharing the same birthday…) As for happy memories, one of my best was the last one in Nov–sharing great food and great company with all my best friends, in a multiple birthday get-together. My childhood memory would have to be the year my parents created a treasure hunt, with each clue a mystery to figure out where the next clue was, and ending at a bike.

    Love to you both!

    Hi BJ,

Happy Birthday! That’s fun that you and your husband have the same birthday. Easy to remember at least.

I can’t come up with a single childhood birthday memory. Weird.

  10. Beth L Says:

Happy (now belated) birthday to you and your Captain Hubby! Hope you both had a great time.
The childhood memory that popped into my head is a weird one…my first-ever memory of embarrassment, breaking rules, and covering up after a mistake all rolled into one: I was little…like, toddler-sized. Next door lived a big black lab named Duke who was about as tall as me but weighed at least twice as much; I wasn’t allowed to be around Duke without a grownup nearby. But one day there he was with me on the porch, all by ourselves. Instead of going into the house or looking for a chaperone, I stood there and pet him all by myself. It was awesome. He apparently agreed because he wagged his tail so hard it knocked me clean off the step. I remember it hurt when I landed! But mostly I remember feeling embarrassed as I scrambled to climb back up to the porch and look cool…or at least as cool as a toddler can look. I kept petting him until he got bored and moved on. I still loved him, but understood a little bit why the grownups had made that rule…!
What a great idea…these were all fun to read and I can’t wait to hear yours next week!

    Hi Beej-

I hope you and Jamey had a great birthday! Happy belated! Hope you @ least
    received the card on time.

I had many Wonderful birthday childhood memories since my loving mom always made sure to have a creative theme. The one that stands out the most was my party @ about 10 or 11. David Cassidy was the Theme/My dream man. Had a beautiful Large heart shaped strawberry dream cake (same cake every year still have mom make it for me when I am home!) With of course- her designed David Cassidy’s face on the front. My friends thought it was cool. Of course games surrounding David C including pin the tail on him ha! ha!

I have enjoyed reading your blog. Your new ceramic designs are beautiful! I love the Christmas window photos-Captain hubby has taught you well- I love looking at them!

    You truly inspire me!

    Love ya!

Happy Birthday fellow Aquarius. So cute that you and your hubby share the same Birthday!

I really don’t remember many birthdays. I do remember my 8th though. It was the only time I had a big party. There was a ‘photographer’ there who set up a ‘Future You’ booth. You stood inside and he took a ‘picture’ of your future you (he would actually give you a a picture from a magazine). I remember REALLY not liking the one he gave me, and I started crying. Other than that it was a great Birthday.

  14. NoraR Says:

I’m a bit late with birthday wishes, but…hope it was wonderful! Very cool that you & DH share a special day!

As far as birthday memories, I don’t really have one that stands out in particular. My birthday falls in September, along with 9 other family members AND we also have 2 anniversaries that month. So instead of an endless stream of birthday parties, my family always picked the ONE weekend there wasn’t a birthday and we got together – like a mini family reunion – and it would last the entire day. BBQ (steaks, ribs, dogs, burgers galore), homemade Southern chunky-mashed potato salad (my favorite), fishing, volleyball, horseshoes, softball, touch football, homemade ice cream, water gun fights (we lived in Oklahoma so it was warm past Halloween), bonfire, and THREE large cakes (German chocolate, cherry chip, and vanilla).

  15. Vickie Says:

Happy Belated Birthday, BJ & Captain Hubby,

I have a February birthday, and my favorite birthdays were when my dad brought me heart shaped boxes of chocolates! This was a simple gift; however, it made me feel very special, just what a little girl needs!

    I enjoy your blog!
